Injuries in Lacrosse

So i was reffing a jv lacrosse game the other day when a kid got hit with the follow through of a shot causing his neck to snap back really quickly. The trainers put him in inline stablization to prevent any neck injuries because they thought he might of cause damage to some vertebrae. I jus tthink its crazy how something so small can cause such a injury and it really makes you think about how it is a neceessity that we continue to find new technologies to prevent injuries in sports.

digital video done

So i finally finished and turned in my digital video today. I wasnt really to happy with the way mine turned out because when i filmed it i did the filming on my own with a tripod and the clips did not come out as good as i wanted. Im just hoping for a decent grade on this and im happy this was the last major project for the semester.

scheduling

so i started scheduling today and of course i had problems. Im trying to get the 352 class and the systme says i need to take 252 which doesnt even exist. I know we are in one of the top pe programs in the country but when we schedule its so hard to find classes. Alot of the classes overlap so u get time restrictions. Overall its just really frustrating.

Sru Lax

So i reffed all three sru club lacrosse games this weekend and they won all three in blowout fashion. Its really exciting to be able to ref my own school and i know it doesnt seem fair but in reality i actually penatilized sru more then the away teams. Sru is only a club team bu tthey could compete in d3 ncaa or even d2 lacrosse i think it would be interesting to see how they would do against tougher competition.

digital video

I finally started my digital video project today and i got about 11 minutes of video but could n ot finish because people came into gym b when i was doing it. I think im gonna have to get up very early tommorow to finish because im doing hockey and gym b is th eonly place with nets so i have to do it when no one is in there. Ive never worked with movie maker or editing so i think this will be a little difficult.

webpage finally done

So after 3 long days at the library and over 9 hours of work my webpage is finally done and turned in. I really put alot of effort into this project and im hoping the result will pay off. After completing this project it made me realize that the efolio is going to be a long drawn out process so instead of waiting until the last weekend like on the web page i plan on working on the efolio asap too get a head start.

citrix

So yeah citirx is a good program and i like how you can use it at the off campus computers. But for some reason it wont work on my computer at the ivy and this is so frustrating i have not been able to work on my webpage unless i go to the library. I really wish it would work here so i could work on the webpage in my room i think i would of had it done by now if i could have.

Underwater cameras

So today in aquatics my professor used a underwater camera to record some of the studnets swimming strokes. I thought this was a really useful piece of technology for use in the pool especially if you are teaching a aquatics program. You can use the videos to improve swimmers strokes and give them detailed information on their own stroke mechanics. I think this would be a positive addition to any aquatics program.

e folios

SO we just got our efolio assignment and i mus tadmit it looks a little intimadating. I think it is going to take alot of time and effort to be able to create a detailed efolio especially since i have never done one before. I do believe that it is critical to crate one though because it will be a very useful tool when graduation approaches and you have to show proof to youre possible employers of your work done here at SRU. So i guess all the work put into now will eventually save in the long run.

virtual bike riding game

So last week in tech we were showed a picture of a elementary school that had a virtual fitness room. One of the stations had fitness bikes that were hooked up to tv's and as the students pedal the bike they move along a course on the screen. I think this is a really cool way to have the kids work out in a fitness unit while having alot of fun at the same time. If more schools could get technology like this i believe that kids would be more excited about fitness in the classroom setting.

skates cutting people in nhl

So in the past two weeks 2 nhl players have been cut by a skate coming off the ice in hitting them. The 1st incident happened to florid apanthers player richard zednik who had a skate punture hit carotid artery nearly killing him. A few days later a player cut his eye but it wasnt major. These incidents are very severe and they have been rare up until now. This just shows the danger of sports and just how things can happen so randomly without warning. This is a key lesson that shows how we must be very careful during sporting events to ensure the safety of all the participants.

tech websites

Hey i was just wondering how everyone is doing with their websites. I still only finished a few pages but i havent linked them or anything like that. I really never created a web page before so going into the assignment i was a little worried how it would go. So far i dont think it has been that hard but its no where near done. Im just hoping the process keeps going smoothly.

Asthma Article

Today i read one of my articles on Asthma and it was very interesting. IT talked about the effects that chlorine has on asthma for swimmers. There was cases found that chlorine actually effected some swimmers asthma and made the disease effect them more in the water then they were used to all the time. I thought this was interesting cause i never really had trouble with my asthma when i was a swimmer so i dont know how much truth the article has to it. This is something i will want to look more into cause it seems very interesting.

Pond Hockey Tournament

I read a rticle this week about a inaugral hockey tournament held in January up on Lake Placid that i thought was very interesting. The tournament is basically a weekend pond hockey tournament played on Lake Placid in the frigid cold weather. I like this because it brings back the true spirit of the game and how it actually came about. It is a adult tournament and my friends and i are actually planning on participating next year. I think its going to be an interesting experience and im really excited for it.

Demonstrating some basic breakaway hockey skills

For my physical education technology class we have to complete a digital video demonstration of a sport skill. I think for mine i am going to provide a detailed demonstration of some basic breakaway moves a player can use when going one on one with the goalie. I could also throw in some advanced moves as well just to show how much creativity there is is something that seems so simple. I want to do this because ive played hockey for a while so i think sharing my knowledge is something i would like to do. Im going to have to see how it goes.

using videos in class

today in class we went over the uses of video technology in a pe setting. i think this is a very useful tool to adapt into a class. there are so many possible ways to use video to enhance a students learning experience. one example i like is a model demonstration, using video to demonstrate the proper techniques and gives you as the teacher the ability to pause the video and explain exactly what the critical elements are for the specific skill. This information will be very useful to me and i cant wait to try to incorparate this technology into a actual classroom to see how well the students adapt to it.
